Ginetta, a company founded by the four Walklett brothers in 1958, has always been synonymous with high-performance race cars that prioritize light weight and agility. The company made waves at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show when they unveiled their latest creation, the Ginetta Akula supercar. This sleek and powerful machine was a significant leap forward from their previous models, boasting a projected 600 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque from a 6.0-liter V8 engine. With a carbon fiber body draped over a carbon monocoque chassis, the Akula promised exceptional performance and a curb weight of just 2,535 pounds. Limited to only 20 units and priced at around 400,000 Great British Pounds, the Akula was set to redefine the supercar segment.

Fast forward five years, and the production version of the Akula is finally ready to hit the streets. While some of the initial projections have been revised, the essence of the car remains the same – a lightweight powerhouse designed for pure driving pleasure. The Akula features a carbon monocoque chassis, steel roll cage, and carbon fiber body panels, all contributing to its impressive performance.

Under the hood, a 6.4-liter V8 engine generates 600 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential. With a perfect 50:50 weight balance, the Akula can sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 180 mph. Owners can choose between a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for seamless shifts or a six-speed manual for a more engaging driving experience.

The Akula sits on 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in P Zero rubber, providing ample grip and stability. The standard ABS-equipped brake package features four-piston calipers clamping 14.2-inch rotors at all four corners, ensuring precise stopping power. For those looking to take their Akula to the track, an optional Race Package offers carbon ceramic brakes and a six-point racing harness for added safety.

While the Akula’s exterior design is understated yet purposeful, the interior is where the car truly shines. Ginetta offers custom seat fitting at their offices, ensuring a tailored driving experience for each owner.

Despite its track-focused design, the Akula doesn’t skimp on comfort and convenience features. An intuitive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay keeps drivers connected on the go, while a wireless phone charger ensures their devices stay powered. The spacious trunk offers nearly 17 cubic feet of storage, perfect for weekend getaways or long road trips. With a generous 26.4-gallon gas tank, the Akula boasts an impressive range of around 450 miles, making it a versatile choice for both track days and long-distance cruising.

In honor of Dr. Lawrence Tomlinson’s 20-year anniversary of buying the company, Ginetta plans to produce only 20 units of the Akula, each starting at 275,000 Great British Pounds ($362,400 U.S.). Despite the limited production run, interested buyers still have the opportunity to secure a build slot and experience the thrill of owning a truly exclusive supercar.

The name “Akula” holds a special significance, as it is Russian for “shark” – a fitting moniker for a car that exudes power, speed, and agility.
