Siemens recently announced its plan to carve out its eMobility business, which focuses on electric vehicle charging activities. The company initially brought together its eMobility charging initiatives in 2018 and later established it as a separate business unit in 2022. This move aims to provide the eMobility business with more freedom and flexibility to become a more agile and efficient player in the growing electric vehicle charging infrastructure market.
Over the years, Siemens has invested in developing the technology and product portfolio of its eMobility business. They have also made strategic acquisitions, such as the recent addition of Heliox, a company specializing in DC fast charging solutions for eBus and eTruck fleets. This acquisition has expanded Siemens’ market presence in Europe and North America and enhanced its capabilities in power electronics.
The upcoming carve-out will bring together Siemens eMobility and Heliox into a dedicated legal structure, combining Siemens’ experience with Heliox’s innovative culture. This new setup is expected to drive progress and solidify the leadership position of the combined entity in the market, further advancing the sustainable transformation of mobility.
Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, highlighted that the reorganization will allow the eMobility business to focus on high-potential segments and key geographical markets. This strategic realignment will enable the business to establish new partnerships, expand customer reach, and enhance capabilities in emerging markets, ultimately accelerating profitability.
Siemens eMobility offers a range of IoT-enabled hardware, software, and services for AC and DC charging, catering to various power needs from 11 kW to 1 megawatt. The business currently operates production and research facilities in Germany, Portugal, the United States, India, and the Netherlands.
The electrification of transport plays a crucial role in achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. By investing in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, Siemens is contributing to this global effort and driving the transition towards sustainable mobility. The carve-out of the eMobility business is a strategic move that will enable Siemens to further strengthen its position in the evolving electric vehicle market and continue to innovate in the field of eMobility.
