Mitsubishi has developed a software update for the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton to address concerns regarding the sensitivity of its camera-based driver monitoring system. The update is aimed at reducing false alerts triggered when the driver looks away from the camera, such as when checking blind spots or adjusting controls.

A recent Mitsubishi dealer service bulletin shared on social media indicates that the software fix will be available for approximately 12,745 units of the latest 24MY Triton, with most of these vehicles yet to be delivered to customers. The bulletin acknowledges that the driver monitoring system alerts are too sensitive in certain situations, prompting the need for an adjustment in the software.

Mitsubishi has instructed its dealers to install the software update on vehicles that have not yet been delivered to customers, as part of the pre-delivery process. This proactive approach aims to address the concerns raised by customers and the media regarding the over-sensitivity of the driver monitoring system.

Driver monitoring systems have come under scrutiny in recent years for providing false or overly sensitive readings, particularly when drivers are engaged in tasks that may divert their attention momentarily. The technology is intended to enhance overall safety by alerting drivers when it detects signs of distraction or fatigue.

The MV-generation Mitsubishi Triton is the first model from the brand to feature a built-in driver monitoring system. The vehicle underwent testing by ANCAP in accordance with the latest 2023-25 criteria and achieved a five-star safety rating in April 2024. However, the driver monitoring system received a score of 1.65 out of three points, contributing to an overall Safety Assist score of 12.75 out of 18 points, which is equivalent to 70%.

To attain the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating, vehicles must achieve a minimum score of 70% in the Safety Assist category. The software update for the Triton is a proactive step by Mitsubishi to address the concerns raised and ensure that the driver monitoring system functions effectively without triggering unnecessary alerts.

Drive has reached out to Mitsubishi Australia for a statement regarding the software fix and will update this article with their response. The development of the software update underscores the brand’s commitment to addressing customer feedback and continuously enhancing the safety features of its vehicles. Mitsubishi owners can contact their nearest dealer to inquire about the availability of the software update for their 2024 Triton model.
