Alright, so I stumbled upon this crazy story about a Ferrari F40 that went from a regular road car to a legit racing beast. Not your typical conversion project, let me tell you. This bad boy was recently up for grabs at an auction and was expected to fetch a cool $3 million. Yep, you read that right.

Back in 1989, this Ferrari F40 was just a run-of-the-mill European-spec street car until it ended up in the hands of Ian Hetherington, a big shot in the video game industry. The guy behind classic PlayStation racing games like Wipeout and Destruction Derby had a thing for real-life racing too. So, he decided to turn his F40 into a ’90s-style Le Mans racer with the help of Martin Shaw from Specialised Cars of Manchester.

The whole conversion process took nearly two years, but in the end, the F40 was pumping out 648 horsepower and looking like a true Ferrari race car with all the bells and whistles. It hit the track in the 2000 British GT Championship and, despite some hiccups along the way, proved to be a speed demon. No major crashes, just pure racing action. And get this – only 27 F40s have ever been transformed into race cars like this. Crazy, right? So, if you’ve got the cash and the guts, you could even build your own copycat racer with all the spare parts included in the sale. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that action?
