If you’re a fan of Porsche 911 restomods but are looking for something truly unique, then Lanzante’s TAG Championship might just be the car for you. This British engineering firm, known for its work on iconic cars like the McLaren P1 LM and Pagani Zonda Revolucion, is taking the 930 Turbo to a whole new level by fitting it with a 10,250rpm V6 engine from 80s McLaren F1 cars.

The result is a beastly 616bhp 911 that weighs only 920kg (without fuel) thanks to the use of carbon fiber components. The TAG 1.5-litre V6 engine is a true powerhouse, originally used by McLaren in their F1 cars to clinch three world championships in the mid-80s. Cosworth has rebuilt three race-used units specifically for the TAG Championship, ensuring top-notch performance.

To adapt the engine for use in the 911, Lanzante has made several modifications, including fitting new pistons, conrods, valves, cams, and revised intake and exhaust systems. They’ve also installed new titanium turbos that save 8kg. Despite the impressive power output, the TAG Championship is fully road legal and can run on regular fuel. It’s equipped with a Porsche 993 gearbox with custom ratios for optimal performance.

Lanzante has not only focused on enhancing the car’s performance but also on reducing weight and improving aerodynamics. The TAG Championship features carbon fiber components for the bonnet, doors, front wings, front splitter, roof, and rear wing. It also comes with carbon/magnesium 18-inch wheels and ceramic brakes for maximum stopping power.

Inside, the TAG Championship has been stripped down to its bare essentials, with electric windows and mirrors removed to save weight. A lightweight climate control system has been fitted, along with a roll cage and carbon-backed Recaro seats with six-point harnesses to complete the motorsport feel.

Only three TAG Championships will be built, with the first one set to debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. If you’re a collector or enthusiast looking for a truly unique and powerful Porsche 911 restomod, the Lanzante TAG Championship is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
