I recently had the opportunity to test out the 2025 Infiniti QX80, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the improvements made to this SUV. While the QX80 has been around for quite some time with only a few refreshes, the latest version has a lot to offer in terms of tech, style, and comfort.
One of the most significant changes is the switch from a V8 to a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which delivers 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This new powertrain not only offers more power but also better fuel economy, with 18 mpg combined for rear-wheel drive and 17 mpg for four-wheel drive. The nine-speed automatic transmission does a great job of putting the power down to the wheels, providing enough grunt for merging and passing.
When it comes to driving, the QX80 offers five different drive modes, but I found myself sticking to Standard and Sport. The Sport mode tightens up the steering and powertrain, allowing the SUV to handle twisty roads with minimal body roll. While it may not be as sporty as a Mercedes-AMG GLS, the QX80 comes in at a more affordable price point.
However, one area where the QX80 falls short is in ride quality. Despite the addition of electronic air suspension and dynamic digital suspension, the SUV lacks the side-to-side stability that some competitors offer. This can be particularly noticeable when driving around town, making for a slightly uncomfortable ride.
On the bright side, the QX80 excels in other areas. The exterior design is top-notch, with a grille inspired by a bamboo forest and a sleek, modern look. Inside, the SUV is luxurious and spacious, with open-pore wood trim, aluminum accents, and comfortable leather seats. The tech features are also impressive, with two 14.3-inch displays, Google Built-in, and a Klipsch Reference sound system with 24 speakers.
The QX80 also comes with a range of advanced driver assistance features, including blind-spot monitoring, ProPilot Assist, and a 360-degree camera system. The SUV can tow up to 8,500 pounds and offers ample cargo space, making it a practical choice for families on the go.
Overall, the 2025 Infiniti QX80 is a solid choice for those in the market for a luxury SUV. While there are some areas that could be improved, such as ride quality, the QX80 offers a compelling combination of style, performance, and technology. With its competitive pricing and impressive features, the QX80 is definitely worth considering for those looking to upgrade to a premium SUV.
