Hyundai, a South Korean carmaker, recently reached a significant milestone by producing its 100 millionth car since its establishment in 1967. The company celebrated this achievement by delivering its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an all-electric Ioniq 5, directly to a customer. This decision was made to signify Hyundai’s commitment to building upon its past accomplishments as a foundation for future success.
Hyundai’s journey began in 1967, with the opening of its first manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea, in 1968. This plant played a crucial role in the development of the Korean automobile industry and was responsible for producing Korea’s first mass-produced car, the Pony. Currently, the Ulsan plant has the capacity to manufacture 1.6 million cars annually.
Over the years, Hyundai has expanded its operations globally, establishing plants in various countries such as the Czech Republic, India, Turkey, and the United States. Despite taking 46 years to reach the milestone of 50 million units in 2013, Hyundai managed to double that number in just 11 years, showcasing its rapid growth and innovation in the automotive industry.
Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai, expressed gratitude to customers worldwide for their continued support, stating that the achievement of producing 100 million vehicles was made possible by their loyalty. He emphasized Hyundai’s commitment to taking on bold challenges and pursuing innovation to drive further growth and become a significant player in the mobility sector.
While Hyundai may not have a long history in performance or motorsport, the company has made strides in producing exciting and fun cars like the Veloster N and the Ioniq 5 N. These vehicles demonstrate Hyundai’s ability to evolve and adapt to changing market demands while maintaining a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction.
As Hyundai marks this impressive milestone, the company looks forward to continuing its legacy of excellence and innovation in the automotive industry. With a foundation built on customer support and a commitment to pushing boundaries, Hyundai aims to achieve another 100 million units and solidify its position as a pioneering force in mobility. Cheers to Hyundai’s past achievements and here’s to 100 million more vehicles in the future.
