After a rigorous selection process, Ulm and Neu-Ulm have chosen to introduce 14 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G buses to their municipal services. These electric articulated buses, which are emission-free at the local level, were delivered on July 1st, with six more to follow in autumn 2024 and the remaining six scheduled for delivery next year.

Equipped with state-of-the-art NMC3 batteries, the eCitaro G buses meet all the requirements set by SWU Verkehr, including a minimum range of 150 kilometers and telematics-based vehicle diagnostic systems. These buses also feature innovative assistance systems that enhance active safety on the road.

The 18.3-meter-long eCitaro G buses come with four doors and are powered by five NMC3 battery packs, providing a total of 490 kWh of energy. The NMC3 batteries are known for their high performance and reliability. In terms of charging options, the buses can be charged at the depot using sockets on both sides above the front axle, as well as on-the-go using a pantograph on the bus roof. A roof-mounted camera system ensures precise alignment with the pantograph charging station, essential for navigating Ulm’s challenging bus routes.

To ensure the safety of passengers and other road users, the eCitaro G buses are equipped with the latest assistance systems from Daimler Buses. These include Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, active braking assistance Preventive Brake Assist 2, and Traffic Sign Assist. These systems help protect vulnerable road users and provide feedback if the vehicle exceeds the speed limit.

With the introduction of these new electric buses, SWU Verkehr GmbH is not only embracing future mobility with safety in mind but also fulfilling its commitment to environmentally friendly transportation. The addition of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G buses will contribute to reducing emissions and promoting sustainable transportation in Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
