Skoda has made the new Superb iV plug-in hybrid available for order, starting at £41,465. This model features the brand’s second-generation plug-in hybrid drivetrain, offering an all-electric range and the ability to use high-speed DC rapid chargers. This release comes after the recent launch of the second-generation Kodiaq iV, showcasing Skoda’s commitment to the plug-in hybrid market.

The Superb iV builds on the success of its predecessor with enhanced all-electric capabilities. Designed to accommodate a new plug-in hybrid system, this model features a larger battery pack and redesigned power electronics for improved range and efficiency. Despite the larger battery, the Superb maintains its spacious interior and practicality, with a 510-litre boot capacity and sector-leading rear legroom.

This plug-in hybrid drivetrain combines a 1.5 TSI petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into the DQ400e DSG gearbox. Together, they produce a combined output of 204PS, with the electric motor capable of powering the car alone or in conjunction with the engine. The introduction of a larger 25.7kWh battery pack significantly increases the all-electric driving range, now up to 84 miles in E-mode.

A notable feature of the Superb iV is the addition of DC rapid charging capability, allowing for faster charging times. The new charging ports have been relocated for easier access to DC rapid chargers, with the ability to charge from 10-80% in approximately 26 minutes. In addition to DC charging, the Superb iV can also be charged on an AC supply at up to 11kW.

Drivers can select from three driving modes to customize their driving experience: E-mode for electric-only driving, Hybrid mode for optimal fuel efficiency, and Sport mode for a more dynamic performance. The Superb iV is available in three trim levels – SE Technology, SE L, and Laurin & Klement – each offering a range of features and options.

With a Benefit in Kind rate of just 5%, the Superb iV presents significant cost savings for fleet and company car drivers. Home charging and low-rate overnight energy tariffs can further reduce running costs, especially when driving in electric-only mode. Overall, the Superb iV represents Skoda’s continued innovation in the plug-in hybrid market, providing customers with a practical and efficient driving solution.
