Ferrari has invested around 200 million euros to build a new production site in Maranello, Italy, known as the e-building. The CEO of the luxury sports carmaker, Benedetto Vigna, stated that the purpose of this new facility is to enhance manufacturing flexibility and reduce the time required to develop and introduce new models, rather than increasing production volume.
During the inauguration of the plant, Vigna highlighted the importance of shortening the time to market and product development time. This new building will allow Ferrari to separate these activities, which currently overlap on existing assembly lines. Vigna emphasized that the focus is on increasing the value per car rather than the number of cars produced. Personalizations are key to expanding revenues from car sales, as customers can request custom touches to tailor the model to their preferences.
Ferrari’s first fully electric (EV) car is expected to be launched by the end of next year, with a starting price of at least half a million euros. The company is also working on a second EV model, signaling its commitment to electric mobility. The new 42,500 square meter facility in Maranello will house an additional car assembly line, increasing the overall theoretical output capacity to around 20,000 cars per year.
In addition to producing EVs, Ferrari will manufacture key components such as axles, motors, and batteries at the new plant. The company plans to offer a mix of hybrid, electric, and traditional combustion-engine models in the future to cater to different types of customers. The technological neutrality of the plant will allow Ferrari to reallocate production activities efficiently among its existing facilities in Maranello.
The new plant is set to begin rolling out cars in January of next year, with series production of Ferrari’s first EV scheduled to commence in January 2026. The focus on innovation, flexibility, and personalization underscores Ferrari’s commitment to delivering high-quality, tailored sports cars to its discerning clientele. The investment in the e-building reflects Ferrari’s dedication to staying at the forefront of automotive technology while maintaining the brand’s prestigious reputation in the luxury sports car market.
