The new BMW X3 SUV has been unveiled with a fresh new look and advanced technology. This fourth-generation model is exclusively available with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as the popular all-electric iX3 will not be offered this time. However, BMW is planning to introduce the Neue Klasse SUV next year to fill the gap left by the EV model.

Initially, the new X3 will come with four engine options. The xDrive20 model features a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, offering 205bhp and a combined fuel consumption figure of 40.9mpg. The diesel xDrive20d variant, priced from £48,210, boasts a 194bhp 2.0-litre diesel unit with similar mild-hybrid technology, achieving up to 48.7mpg on the combined cycle.

For those interested in a plug-in hybrid option, the xDrive30e model starts from £56,340 and combines a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering 294bhp and an impressive 54-mile all-electric range. On the other hand, the top-of-the-range M50 xDrive, priced at £64,990, features a powerful 392bhp six-cylinder engine with a 0-62mph acceleration time of 4.6 seconds.

The new X3 boasts a lighter and stiffer structure, along with upgraded suspension systems. The design of the vehicle combines classic BMW styling elements with a modern twist, offering two main trims – xLine and M Sport. The interior features a large curved screen with a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, controlled by a new steering wheel with innovative controls.

In terms of practicality, the X3 offers a boot capacity of 570 litres, expandable to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded. The vehicle is also capable of towing up to 2,500kg, depending on the powertrain. With a focus on combustion engines and plug-in hybrid technology, BMW has optimized the body and chassis of the X3, ensuring a balanced weight distribution across the different variants.

While the X3 does not offer an all-electric option in this iteration, BMW is set to introduce the production version of the Neue Klasse X concept in 2025, featuring a new electric architecture with cutting-edge technology. Overall, the new BMW X3 presents a compelling choice for customers looking for a premium mid-size SUV with a range of efficient and powerful engine options.
