NextStar Energy, a partnership between Stellantis and LG Energy Solution, is commemorating its one-year anniversary with a series of accomplishments in the field of clean energy. The company’s goal is to have an annual production capacity of 49.5 gigawatt-hours and create over 2,500 new jobs, making it Canada’s first large-scale electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility.

Danies Lee, the CEO of NextStar Energy, emphasized the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders in achieving this ambitious project. He credited the support from government entities, meticulous planning, advanced technology, and a skilled workforce for the progress made during the first year. The construction of the 4.23-million-square-foot battery manufacturing plant is progressing steadily, with the Module building nearing completion and the Cell building at 90% exterior construction. Safety is a top priority at NextStar Energy, with 4.3 million man-hours worked without any lost time injuries.

The company is actively recruiting for the projected 2,500 jobs, with over 325 employees already hired. These positions will not only benefit the local economy but also create spin-off jobs in the community. Interested individuals can find job listings on the NextStar Energy website. In February, NextStar Energy successfully produced its first battery module sample, and full-scale production is scheduled to begin in the fall, with cell manufacturing to follow in 2025.

As NextStar Energy enters its second year, it remains committed to manufacturing cutting-edge batteries in Windsor and contributing to the local economy. The company aims to grow alongside the community, drive clean energy solutions, and support economic development in Windsor and beyond.
