Hyundai is set to unveil its new entry-level electric vehicle, the Inster, on June 27 at the Busan Mobility Show in South Korea. The Inster is a city car that is poised to compete with the Dacia Spring and Citroen e-C3 in the affordable EV market. Priced around £22,000, the Inster promises a range of up to 220 miles, setting new standards in driving range, technology, and safety features for this class of vehicle.

The design of the Inster is based on the Hyundai Casper, a small SUV sold in South Korea with a petrol engine. It retains the Casper’s boxy shape, short overhangs, and large circular headlights, while adding new square pixel indicators and rear lights seen in other Hyundai electric cars. The Inster will also feature roof rails, a chunky front bumper, and a fully digital instrument panel in the interior, giving it an SUV-like appearance.

Hyundai aims for the Inster to be a reference point for popularizing electric vehicles, offering buyers an intimate and innovative driving experience. The name “Inster” is derived from “intimate” and “innovative,” paying homage to the Casper. In Korea, it will be known as the Casper Electric. Compared to its competitors, the Dacia Spring and Citroen e-C3, the Inster is expected to match the Citroen’s price while providing a greater driving range.

In addition to the Inster, Hyundai has been making strides in the electric vehicle market, showcasing its latest hydrogen technology at CES 2024 and introducing the Supernal S-A2, a hybrid helicopter-plane concept. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Hyundai is expanding its mobility portfolio to meet the demands of the future.

As Hyundai continues to roll out new electric vehicles and cutting-edge technology, the motoring world is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Inster and the impact it will have on the affordable EV market. Stay tuned for more updates on Hyundai’s electrifying developments and the exciting future of electric mobility.
