Caterham, a renowned British sports car manufacturer, has recently unveiled its new state-of-the-art factory and global headquarters in Dartford, Kent. This significant investment from Caterham’s owners will result in a 50% increase in annual production of the classic Caterham Seven sports car, with 750 units set to be produced each year.
The construction and outfitting of the new 54,000 sq ft facility took nine months, and it now boasts various features such as paint booths, an engine workshop, and a parts warehouse. Additionally, there are 33 individual bays where skilled car builders will be responsible for assembling each Caterham Seven by hand.
According to Bob Laishley, the CEO of Caterham, this new headquarters marks a pivotal moment in the brand’s history and will have a transformative impact on the business and the future of the Seven. The expanded floor space and optimized layout of the factory will enhance operational efficiency and streamline processes. Moreover, having all departments, including production, engineering, motorsport, and commercial teams, under one roof will foster better collaboration and communication.
In addition to increasing production capacity for the Caterham Seven, the new factory will also pave the way for the production of the Caterham Project V, an all-electric sports car that was unveiled last year. There are plans to start production of the road-going version of the Project V by the end of 2025, adding another exciting model to Caterham’s lineup.
Furthermore, Caterham aims to offer a range of customer experiences at its new headquarters, including vehicle handovers and factory tours for passionate fans. This initiative will allow customers to engage more closely with the brand and gain insights into the craftsmanship and dedication that go into building each Caterham sports car.
Overall, the opening of the new factory signifies Caterham’s commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. By expanding its production capabilities and enhancing the overall customer experience, Caterham is poised for a bright future in the automotive industry.
