The BMW 1 Series has undergone a significant facelift, revealing a fresh new look, enhanced technology, and improved engines. Despite the fact that the previous model was only launched in 2019, the changes are so substantial that BMW is calling this the fourth generation of the 1 Series.

One of the most noticeable changes is the sleeker front end, featuring swept-back headlights and a more angular design. The wide kidney grilles now merge into a single large panel on the car’s nose, housing sensors and radars for driver assistance systems. The side of the car showcases an embossed number ‘1’ on the C-pillar, integrated into the iconic Hoffmeister kink. The rear of the car has been subtly updated with new LED light clusters and a revised bumper design.

Inside, the new 1 Series boasts a single-piece curved infotainment display, consisting of a 10.7-inch main screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The interior is leather-free, with the option for ‘Econeer’ upholstery made from recycled PET. The new model names reflect BMW’s shift away from the ‘i’ designation, with the 120 and M135 replacing the previous 120i and M135i, respectively.

The entry-level 120 model is powered by a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 168bhp. The M135 offers enhanced performance characteristics with 296bhp and a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds. Both models come with new technology and features, including standard seven-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

The new 1 Series promises improved agility, steering precision, and cornering dynamics thanks to increased rigidity and chassis enhancements. Prices for the UK market start at £29,950 for the Sport model and £31,950 for the M Sport model. The range-topping M135 is priced at £41,000. Various packages are available to add additional features such as Live Cockpit Professional, wireless phone charging, and adaptive LED headlights.

Overall, the facelifted BMW 1 Series offers a fresh new look, advanced technology, and updated engines to enhance the driving experience for customers. The focus on digitalization, sustainability, and performance improvements makes this new model a compelling choice in the competitive hatchback segment.
