A new Tesla Cybertruck owner experienced a terrifying accident when his vehicle crashed into a house just four hours after hitting the road. The owner, who goes by the username @bfreshwa on social media platform X, reported that the accelerator pedal malfunctioned, causing the truck to accelerate uncontrollably.
According to @bfreshwa, the throttle was unresponsive, preventing the brake from disengaging the accelerator. This resulted in the truck launching into a house without slowing down or turning properly. The owner described skid marks of about 50 feet, suggesting that one set of wheels was accelerating while the other set was locked.
Tesla responded to @bfreshwa’s complaint by stating that they are reviewing the logs to investigate the issue. They mentioned that due to the terrain, the accelerator may or may not disengage when the brake is depressed. The company is also looking into the back tire locking problem reported by the owner.
This incident is separate from a previous issue that led Tesla to temporarily halt Cybertruck deliveries in April. Owners had reported problems with the accelerator pedal getting stuck, which was later attributed to the aluminum plate covering the pedal sliding up and causing a jam.
While the Cybertruck has been available for purchase in the US since late 2023, it has been confirmed that the electric pick-up truck will not be introduced in Australia anytime soon. However, one example is currently on a national tour, with Melbourne as the next stop.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently mentioned that global exports of the Cybertruck are being considered, but design changes would be needed to meet international standards. Musk stated that such exports may not be feasible until next year at the earliest.
