MAN, in partnership with E.ON and its subsidiary E.ON Drive Infrastructure, is leading the way in accelerating the development of charging infrastructure for all-electric trucks in Germany and Europe. This collaboration aims to establish approximately 170 locations with 400 charging points for public use across Europe, with 125 locations planned in Germany alone. This ambitious project will create the largest nationwide public charging network for heavy commercial vehicles in the country.

The first charging point has already been put into operation at the MAN service branch in Berlin-Wildau, with two more locations set to open in Karlsfeld and Fürstenwalde in the coming weeks. These locations will feature charging points capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power, specially designed to accommodate electric commercial vehicles. The partners plan to have 80 locations equipped with publicly accessible charging infrastructure by the end of 2025.

In addition to this initiative, MAN has joined forces with FC Bayern Munich to establish high-performance charging points at the Allianz Arena in Munich. A total of 30 charging points are planned, allowing up to 500 electric buses and lorries to be charged daily. The Allianz Arena’s robust electricity grid, typically underutilized except on match days, provides an ideal setting for a commercial vehicle charging park.

Moreover, MAN is involved in a joint venture with TRATON GROUP, Daimler Truck, and the Volvo Group to build and operate 1,700 high-capacity public charging stations in Europe by 2027. This collaborative effort underscores the industry’s commitment to expanding the infrastructure needed to support the growing demand for electric trucks.

While public charging infrastructure is essential for widespread adoption of electric trucks, MAN recognizes the importance of establishing charging points at customers’ premises. For routes that are predictable and regularly traveled or for vehicles that return to the same depot after each shift, investing in on-site charging infrastructure is a logical step. MAN Transport Solutions works closely with customers to design and implement optimal energy supply strategies, in collaboration with partners such as Heliox (Siemens), SBRS (Shell), and ABB.

The efforts of MAN, in partnership with E.ON, FC Bayern Munich, and other industry leaders, demonstrate a collective commitment to advancing the development of charging infrastructure for electric trucks. By expanding the network of charging locations and implementing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of commercial vehicle operators, these initiatives are paving the way for a more sustainable future in freight transport.
