Ariel Motor Company has unveiled the second generation of its off-roading vehicle, the Nomad 2. This new model features significant upgrades, with only three parts carried over from its predecessor. The most notable change is the switch to a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine from the Ford Focus ST, delivering 305 horsepower and 382 pound-feet of torque. Ariel has tuned the engine for optimal performance in this road-legal off-road buggy, providing a substantial power increase over the previous model.
The Nomad 2 offers a switchable ECU with three different maps, allowing drivers to choose between 302 hp and 333 lb-ft for the midrange model, and 260 hp and 284 lb-ft for the base setup. Weighing just 1,576 pounds, this lightweight vehicle can reach 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 134 mph. With its compact size and impressive approach and departure angles, the Nomad 2 is designed to tackle tough terrain with ease.
In addition to the engine upgrade, the new Nomad 2 features larger brakes, improved structural rigidity, and a range of optional upgrades, including a Quaife sequential transmission and driver-adjustable ABS. The vehicle also offers practical features such as a rear-mounted rack and UV-protective “bikini roof cover.”
Starting at £67,992 ($87,000) in the UK, the Nomad 2 comes with over 100 customizable options for drivers to choose from. With its combination of power, agility, and off-road capability, the Ariel Nomad 2 is set to be one of the fastest vehicles off the beaten path, offering an exhilarating driving experience for off-road enthusiasts.
