Brian Briggs recently experienced a costly incident on Georgia’s I-285 in metro Atlanta when his car was damaged by two cement prongs on the side of the highway. While trying to pull over after getting lost using his GPS, Briggs hit the prongs, causing $2,000 worth of damage to his BMW i3.
After filing a claim with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for the damage, Briggs was informed that they do not handle claims. Instead, he was directed to the Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) for claims status. A representative from DOAS has reached out to Briggs and is working to resolve the issue.
The cement prongs were originally used to hold a damaged highway exit sign in place, which was later removed. However, the prongs were left behind until the location was fixed on September 23rd. GDOT assured that the prongs should not pose a problem for other motorists now that the issue has been addressed.
It’s unfortunate that Briggs had to face such unexpected expenses due to the negligence of leaving the cement prongs on the highway. Hopefully, the situation will be resolved promptly, and he will be compensated for the damages incurred. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper maintenance and safety measures on the roads to prevent similar accidents in the future.
