Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid owners, take note – a recent safety recall has been issued for nearly 20,000 units of the plug-in hybrid minivan due to a potential battery fire risk. The recall applies to models built between 2017 and 2021, with the exact number of affected vehicles estimated at 19,516 in the United States and an additional 2,912 in Canada.

The issue stems from a rare abnormality in individual cells of the high-voltage battery pack, which could lead to a fire. While details on how the fire starts are still limited, Chrysler is working on a software update to detect the abnormality and prevent potential fires. Vehicles found to have cell-related problems will receive a new battery pack as a solution.

Although there have been seven reported fires and four cases of smoke inhalation symptoms among customers, Chrysler assures that there have been no accidents related to the issue. The fires occurred while the vehicles were turned off, and the risk is lower when the battery is empty. Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles and to park outside and away from structures and other vehicles as a precaution. However, the affected Pacifica models are still safe to drive.

If you own a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, be on the lookout for a notification by mail from the company regarding the recall. Some vehicles may have already been repaired in previous recalls in 2020 and 2022, but it’s essential to stay informed about the latest developments. Rest assured, newer models are not affected as they have undergone improved manufacturing processes.

Safety is a top priority for Chrysler, and they are taking proactive steps to address this issue and ensure the well-being of their customers. If you have any concerns or questions about the recall, don’t hesitate to reach out to Chrysler or your local dealership for assistance. Stay informed and stay safe on the road.
