Ferrari has recently unveiled its new cutting-edge factory in preparation for the production of its first electric car. The Italian luxury car manufacturer has invested €200 million in the construction of a 42,500 square-meter facility located in Maranello, Italy.

This new factory, known as the ‘e-building’, will not only produce Ferrari’s debut electric vehicle set to launch in early 2026 but will also be utilized for the manufacturing of internal combustion and hybrid cars. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna emphasized that the primary goal of the new plant is not to increase production capacity but rather to streamline the development of new products and enhance customization options for customers.

While there have been speculations about the increase in annual production to 20,000 cars and the pricing of the electric car at €500,000, Vigna clarified that these reports are not confirmed. The focus remains on maintaining quality revenues over quantity and offering personalized touches to cater to the demands of Ferrari enthusiasts.

The ‘e’ in ‘e-building’ symbolizes three key aspects according to Vigna: energy, evolution, and environment. The facility is equipped with 9000 solar panels, hydrogen-ready fuel-cell technology, and a greater reliance on renewable energy sources to reduce carbon emissions. By early 2025, Ferrari aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its manufacturing processes.

In addition to the new e-building, Ferrari plans to design and manufacture most components of its electric car in-house, including the electric motor, e-axle, and battery pack. The company will collaborate with external suppliers for individual battery cells to be integrated into the Ferrari-designed module.

The production at the new factory is scheduled to commence in January 2025, with the Purosangue V12 SUV and SF90 hybrid hypercar expected to be among the first vehicles to roll off the assembly line. The facility will employ around 300 workers, contributing to the existing 5000-strong workforce at Maranello.

Ferrari’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is evident in the development of the new e-building and the forthcoming electric car. The company’s dedication to maintaining its reputation for quality and exclusivity while embracing technological advancements and environmental responsibility sets a new standard in the luxury automotive industry.
