Numerous Tesla owners have experienced being stuck inside their EVs after the cars unexpectedly lost power. Firefighters had to rescue a toddler from a locked Tesla when the car’s battery died. It is important to know how to manually open Tesla doors in case of emergencies.

Renee Sanchez shared her experience with reporters, explaining how her EV’s battery died while her 20-month-old granddaughter was inside the car. Firefighters had to break the car’s window to rescue the child. YouTuber Tom Exton also faced a similar situation where his Tesla Model Y lost power, leaving him unable to exit the vehicle.

Another Tesla driver, Rick Meggison, found himself trapped inside his Model Y on a hot day when the battery died. He had to rely on his sister to open the passenger door using the Tesla app, but this action also resulted in a cracked window.

To prevent getting stuck in a Tesla without power, it is essential to know how to locate and activate the manual door releases in different Tesla models. Here is a guide on how to do so for the Model S, 3, X, and Y:

Model S: The manual door release for the front doors is located in front of the window switches on the door panel. For the rear doors, you need to pull back the carpet below the back seats to access the emergency door release cable.

Model 3: Only the front doors are equipped with a manual door release, located in front of the window switch panel on the door.

Model X: The front doors can be opened using a manual door release in front of the window buttons. For the rear doors, a mechanical release is behind the speaker grille, which needs to be removed to access the release cable.

Model Y: The manual door release for the front seats is in front of the window switch panel. Some Model Y cars have a manual release for the rear seats located in the rear doors’ pockets.

It is crucial for Tesla owners to familiarize themselves with these manual door release mechanisms to ensure they can safely exit the vehicle in case of emergencies. Tesla did not respond to requests for comments on this matter.
