Introducing a new innovative vehicle called the Karbike, a unique hybrid that blurs the lines between e-bikes and cars. With four wheels, rear seats, a roof, and an electric motor capable of covering 47 miles on a single charge, this contraption is equipped with a solar panel on the roof for additional range.

Although resembling an oversized toaster, the Karbike is technically classified as an E-bike that aspires to be a car. Striving to comply with the 250-watt power limit for pedal-assist e-bikes in Europe, it boasts a substantial 750-watt-hour battery for extended range. Constructed with an aluminum roof and a steel frame, the Karbike is 31.5 inches wide and operated by a combination of pedals and a mid-mounted Valeo motor, reaching speeds of up to 15 miles per hour.

Founded in 2022 by Gaelle Richard and Lucas Vançon, two Alsatian engineers based in France, Karbikes aims to introduce two versions of the vehicle once it progresses beyond the prototype stage later this summer. The second model will cater to families, accommodating an adult and two children, along with groceries or other cargo.

Inventor Lucas Vançon shared his inspiration behind the Karbike, stating, “Cycling in unfavorable weather conditions such as rain and cold can be discouraging, leading us to explore the idea of adding a roof to the bike. This concept eventually evolved into the creation of the Karbike.”

Looking ahead, Karbikes plans to revolutionize urban transportation by offering an alternative mode of eco-friendly travel that combines the convenience of a car with the health benefits of cycling. With the potential to reduce carbon emissions and alleviate traffic congestion in city centers, the Karbike represents a promising solution for sustainable urban mobility.
