Hot-hatch enthusiasts have something to celebrate as Mini has unveiled its first-ever electric performance models, the John Cooper Works Electric and John Cooper Aceman. Both of these models come equipped with the same electric powertrain, producing an impressive 255 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The electric motor powers the front wheels of these hatches, allowing for a thrilling driving experience.

In addition to their powerful performance, both the JCW Electric and Aceman feature a 54.2-kWh battery capacity and have a unique Go-Kart mode that unlocks an additional 27 horsepower with just the flip of a switch on the steering wheel. This extra power boost is perfect for overtaking maneuvers and helps the cars achieve a top speed of 124 mph. The standard JCW Electric can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds, while the Aceman takes slightly longer at 6.4 seconds.

Mini has emphasized that these electric models stay true to the brand’s tradition and character while incorporating modern electric architecture. They also come equipped with John Cooper Works-specific suspension and summer tires, ensuring a dynamic driving experience. The JCW Electric boasts a range of 231 miles on the WLTP cycle, while the Aceman offers a slightly lower range of 221 miles.

Unfortunately, fans of hot hatches in North America may have to wait a while before getting their hands on these electrifying models. Mini plans to produce the JCW Electric and Aceman exclusively in China until 2026, after which production will shift to the United Kingdom. This delay in availability may disappoint some enthusiasts, but it highlights Mini’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup in the coming years.
