Justin Timberlake was recently arrested for driving while intoxicated, which came as a surprise to many. What was even more surprising was that the officer who pulled him over claimed not to recognize him. This rookie officer, Michael Arkinson, has quickly gained a reputation among the wealthy residents of Sag Harbor for actually enforcing traffic laws, earning himself nicknames like “The Sag Harbor Nazi” and “little red-headed dipshit.”
One driver, Spencer, shared his encounter with Arkinson, where he was pulled over for making a quick U-turn while looking for a parking spot. Spencer felt that the officer was being unreasonable, especially since it was off-season and there were no other cars around. He was also issued a ticket for using his cell phone while driving, even though he was driving below the speed limit. Spencer believed he was unfairly targeted and sympathized with Timberlake, calling the Sag Harbor police over-aggressive.
However, not everyone in Sag Harbor is critical of Arkinson. Some residents remember him from his time as a traffic control officer and believe that he is just doing his job. They also pointed out that not everyone may recognize Timberlake, especially if they’re not fans of his music. It seems like the real issue here is the sense of entitlement among some of the wealthy residents who expect special treatment due to their status.
In a town like Sag Harbor, where wealth and privilege often go hand in hand, it’s no surprise that some residents are outraged when they are held accountable for breaking the law. Officer Arkinson may be new to the force, but he seems to be committed to upholding the law, regardless of who is on the other side of the ticket. Perhaps it’s time for the residents of Sag Harbor to reflect on their own behavior and attitudes towards law enforcement before casting judgment on those simply trying to do their job.
