Toyota has introduced the 2025 GR Corolla, a sporty compact car that has received significant updates for the new model year. One of the most notable changes is the addition of an eight-speed automatic transmission, known as the GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). This new transmission is equipped with software that can anticipate driver inputs and features closer gear ratios to optimize power and torque delivery. In addition, Toyota has included four drive modes – Normal, Eco, Custom, and Sport – with the Sport mode specifically tailored for the automatic transmission.
The 2025 GR Corolla now boasts a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-3 engine that produces 300 horsepower, with torque increased by 22 pound-feet to a total of 295. The model has also undergone some exterior updates, including a refreshed front fascia for improved airflow and cooling, new brake ducts, updated differentials, revised suspension tuning, and the addition of launch control.
Despite these enhancements, the price of the GR Corolla has increased for the 2025 model year. The base Core model with the eight-speed automatic transmission starts at $41,995 including the destination charge, while the manual option is priced at $39,995. The Premium trim levels are priced even higher, with the Premium starting at $42,575 with the manual and $44,575 with the automatic, and the new Premium Plus trim starting at $46,650 with the manual and $48,650 with the automatic.
With these price increases, the 2025 Toyota GR Corolla now competes with other high-performance sport compacts such as the Honda Civic Type R and the Volkswagen Golf R. Despite the higher price tag, Toyota is confident that the updated GR Corolla will appeal to buyers looking for a sporty and stylish compact car. The new model is expected to arrive at dealerships in the fall, offering customers the opportunity to experience the latest upgrades and features in person.
