Audi recently announced its plan to launch 20 new models in the years 2024 and 2025, with three of these new vehicles already in the spotlight. The next-generation A5, the electric A6 E-Tron, and the third generation of the popular Q5 are set to be unveiled in the near future, potentially marking the beginning of a new naming system for the brand.

The upcoming A5 is being referred to as a model family, hinting at the possibility of an expanded lineup beyond the current coupe, convertible, and Sportback models. Reports suggest that Audi is planning to restructure its naming system, with odd-numbered nameplates indicating electric cars and even-numbered ones representing gasoline-powered models. This shift could mean that the successor to the A4 will not bear the A4 nameplate, leading to speculation about its potential designation as the new A5.

A teaser image released by Audi provides a glimpse of the upcoming model, showcasing distinctive features such as a light bar, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a sharply-creased hatch. While the model is expected to feature a combustion engine rather than an electric powertrain, Audi promises that it represents “the beginning of the next generation of combustion engines.” The official debut of this new vehicle is scheduled for July 16.

Following the A5’s debut, Audi will introduce the electric A6 E-Tron in late July. This model will be available in both Sportback and Avant configurations, with design elements closely resembling the A6 E-Tron concept unveiled in 2021. The brand’s designer has indicated that about 95% of the concept’s design will be retained in the production model, with minor adjustments such as the door handles.

As for the current gasoline-powered A6, its future remains uncertain. Audi may choose to continue offering it alongside the new electric model or opt for a complete replacement with a different nameplate. The forthcoming third-generation Q5, set to be revealed in the fall, will feature a hybrid model among its lineup. Given the success of the Q5 as Audi’s best-selling model in the United States, the upcoming generation is expected to play a crucial role for the brand.

Stay tuned for more updates on Audi’s upcoming releases as further details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. The brand’s ambitious plans for expansion and innovation are set to reshape its lineup and solidify its position in the automotive market.
