Rivian, an electric vehicle company, has recently expanded its charging network in Yosemite National Park by opening a new Charging Outpost in Groveland, California. This Outpost is designed not only for EV drivers to charge their vehicles but also to provide a relaxing and refreshing experience for travelers. The Outpost offers amenities such as a lounge area with sustainable furniture made from upcycled materials, a library, Rivian merchandise, a trail mix station, complimentary coffee, and a water bottle refill station.
Visitors to the Charging Outpost will have access to five DC fast chargers, restrooms, native plants, and educational games about sustainability. The space has been thoughtfully designed to elevate the charging experience and make it more enjoyable for travelers. Liz Guerrero, Senior Director of Environments at Rivian, emphasized that the goal is to provide a relaxing and recharging pit stop for travelers on their journey.
In addition to the Yosemite Charging Outpost, Rivian has also opened a charging site near the eastern entrance of Yosemite in Lee Vining, California, and installed 58 Waypoints chargers across 11 sites in popular destinations within Yosemite Valley. This expansion of the charging network aims to provide increased access to Yosemite National Park and promote electric adventures in the area.
The new Charging Outpost in Groveland was originally a blacksmith shop in 1870 and has a rich history of serving the community and travelers passing through. Rivian’s decision to restore the site was influenced by its significance as a transportation hub in the area. During the restoration process, Rivian focused on minimizing waste and using sustainable materials to preserve the site’s historical value.
The Yosemite Charging Outpost is just the first of several Charging Outposts that Rivian plans to open near national parks and high-traffic areas across the country. By expanding its charging network, Rivian aims to promote sustainable travel and provide a unique and enjoyable experience for EV drivers and travelers alike.
