The new MINI Cooper 5-Door has made its debut, offering a more practical option compared to the classic three-door version. Available for order now, the starting price for this model is £24,050. Unlike the three-door MINI, the 5-Door version is only offered with petrol power. If you are looking for an electric vehicle, you might want to consider the pure-electric MINI Aceman crossover, set to arrive later this year.

In terms of size, the 5-Door MINI is longer by 172mm, slightly wider, and has a wheelbase stretched by 72mm, providing ample space for five passengers. MINI claims that the rear cabin is noticeably wider and can comfortably accommodate three individuals. The boot space has also been increased to 275 liters, up from 210 liters in the three-door version. When the 60:40-split rear seats are folded down, the luggage capacity expands to 925 liters, compared to the three-door’s 800 liters.

Despite its compact size, measuring 4,036mm in length, 1,744mm in width, and 1,464mm in height, the new MINI Cooper 5-Door boasts a tight 11.4-meter turning circle and retains MINI’s trademark “go-kart” handling. The design remains minimalist, with circular LED headlights, a new octagonal grille design, and customizable tail-light panels at the rear.

Inside the vehicle, an ultra-slim 9.4-inch OLED circular touchscreen dominates the dashboard. The screen functions as the instrument panel, controlling media, navigation, and climate settings. A voice assistant named “Hey MINI” is also available, represented by an avatar or MINI’s ‘virtual travel partner’ Spike the dog. Physical rocker switches are present for the gear selector, start/stop key, and volume control, allowing more space on the center console for storage compartments and a wireless charging pad. The dashboard and doors are made from recycled polyester material.

Drivers can select from seven ‘MINI Experience Modes’, each offering a different theme for the OLED display and modifying the graphics projected onto the dashboard. Two petrol engines are on offer, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Cooper C features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 154bhp, while the Cooper S is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 201bhp.

The MINI Cooper 5-Door is available in Classic, Exclusive, and Sport trims, with prices starting from £24,050. Standard features include the circular OLED screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a heated steering wheel, a rear-view camera, sat-nav, cruise control, and various safety systems. The Sport trim offers a more sporty look with upgraded brakes, transmission, 18-inch wheels, and additional features like a 360-degree parking camera and a panoramic sunroof.

Overall, the new MINI Cooper 5-Door brings a blend of practicality, style, and performance to the supermini segment, catering to those looking for a versatile and fun-to-drive vehicle.
