HWA, the engineering firm known for its work on iconic AMG race cars, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special project – a modern take on the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II. This project falls under the new HWA Legacy division and will see the creation of 100 restomodded units, with prices starting at £730k each. These vehicles are expected to be road-legal and the first deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2025.

The original Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II is a legendary DTM racer that debuted in 1990 and made waves in motorsport. Only 502 road-legal versions were produced, featuring a Cosworth-built 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. HWA’s modern interpretation of this classic will blend the original design with cutting-edge technology, promising a unique driving experience.

Partnering with US-based historic performance car specialist Curated, HWA aims to bring the Evo II back to life in a way that resonates with modern car enthusiasts. The company’s founder, Hans Werner Aufrecht, expressed confidence in the project, highlighting the importance of finding a partner who understands the market and believes in the vision for the HWA Evo.

With production limited to just 100 units worldwide, the HWA Evo is expected to make its debut on the roads before the end of 2025. The first chassis, 000, will be auctioned in July, setting the tone for the high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail that will define this project. While the price tag of £730k may seem steep, it reflects the level of engineering expertise and innovation that HWA brings to the table.

In a market saturated with classic car restomods, the HWA Evo II stands out as a unique blend of heritage and modernity. By staying true to the iconic design of the original while incorporating state-of-the-art technology, HWA is setting a new standard for automotive enthusiasts and collectors alike. Keep an eye out for the HWA Evo II as it hits the road and makes its mark on the automotive world.
