Yeah, so this new Slate Truck EV is supposed to be real cheap, like around $27,500, but then it could drop to just under $20,000 with that federal EV tax credit thing. Apparently, you can add on some accessories to make this thing an SUV too. Deliveries are supposed to start by the end of 2026 from some plant in the U.S. Midwest. The entry model has a driving range of about 150 miles.
I don’t really get why Slate is so obsessed with this federal EV tax credit sticking around. I mean, with the $7500 subsidy, this 2027 Truck will be cheaper, but without it, it’s still around $27,500. Slate’s been around since 2022, when it was just a project within Re:Build, some manufacturing company run by Jeff Wilke from Amazon and Miles Arnone from Cannon Capital. In 2023, Slate got like $111 million from investors. One of them was Jeff Bezos, the Amazon guy.
This Truck is super basic. No power locks, cruise control, or infotainment system. You gotta use your phone or tablet for that stuff, and there aren’t even any speakers. But yeah, they’ll sell you some if you want. You can also add over 100 accessories to this thing like power windows or an SUV kit that makes it look like a bigger truck with a backseat and stuff.
Every single Slate Truck is pretty much the same except for the battery pack. You can pay extra for a bigger one that gives you a longer driving range. The Truck is small, like shorter than a Subaru Crosstrek, but it has a decent trunk and bed. There’s only one motor in this thing, but it’s got enough power to get you moving.
At first, this Slate Truck seems kinda pricey for what you’re getting. But once you factor in that federal EV tax credit, it starts to make more sense. Even though it’s missing some features, this Truck offers a lot of customization options in a small electric package. Just don’t expect it to be as cool as the Ford Maverick.
