Tom Walkinshaw Racing has recently introduced the Supercat, a modified version of the classic Jaguar XJS, limited to just 88 units and priced at £225,000 each. Classic car enthusiasts are increasingly drawn to restomod projects, and the XJS is the latest model to undergo a significant transformation by TWR, known for its motorsport heritage that includes the Le Mans-winning Jaguar XJR-9.
The Supercat boasts a distinctive appearance with custom widened carbon fiber bodywork, new headlights, and turbofan wheels. The design of the vehicle has been enhanced through CFD testing, incorporating features like a front splitter, rear diffuser, and ducktail spoiler to improve stability, especially at high speeds, thanks to its 600bhp supercharged V12 engine.
While specific details about the powertrain are yet to be revealed, TWR has confirmed that the engine will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The chassis has undergone significant development from the XJS platform, with input from experienced engineers from Porsche, McLaren, and Ferrari.
Fergus Walkinshaw, leading the project and son of TWR founder Tom, expressed pride in unveiling the Supercat after over two years of design, engineering, and development work. The vehicle is positioned as a driver-focused Super-GT, built on the foundation of the iconic Jaguar XJS, promising an exhilarating driving experience both on the road and the track.
The Supercat is designed to offer enhanced performance with improved body rigidity, reduced drag, and substantial weight savings compared to the standard XJS model. With only 88 units planned for production, each Supercat will feature personalized design and trim elements based on customer preferences, with a starting price of £225,000 excluding taxes, which can increase based on customization choices.
Initial deliveries are expected to begin later in the year following the public debut of the Supercat scheduled for this summer. Classic car enthusiasts and collectors looking for a unique and high-performance vehicle inspired by the Jaguar XJS legacy will undoubtedly appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering expertise that TWR has poured into the creation of the Supercat.
