Cupra has recently unveiled the updated 2024 versions of its popular Leon and Formentor models, offering a fresh new design, enhanced performance, and improved interior features. These models are expected to launch towards the end of the year, although UK pricing and availability details have not been disclosed yet.

The facelifted Leon and Formentor showcase distinct new designs, including an aggressive ‘shark nose’ front bumper, redesigned matrix LED headlights (standard on the VZ3 trim), and an illuminated badge within the full-width rear light bar. In addition to the new design elements, customers can choose from a range of color options, such as Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey matte.

Both models are built on the MQB Evo platform, incorporating upgrades from the updated Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. The interior of the Leon and Formentor now features illuminated touch sliders for climate and volume control, a larger 12.9-inch central infotainment display, and an updated digital dashboard. Furthermore, sustainable materials have been used throughout the range, with the VZ3 model offering a bucket seat option made from 73% recycled microfiber.

For the 2024 lineup, Cupra introduces a plug-in eHybrid variant that delivers up to 268bhp and 62 miles of pure electric range in both the Leon and Formentor models. The entry-level models come with a 148bhp 1.5-liter petrol engine with a manual transmission, while higher-tier options offer 201bhp and 261bhp 2.0-liter four-cylinder variants with a DSG gearbox as standard.

The performance-oriented models in the range, such as the Leon Estate and Formentor, are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged EA888 four-cylinder engine producing 328bhp with all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line VZ3 models come equipped with larger 375mm six-piston brakes, Cupra mode for enhanced throttle response, and chassis updates for improved dynamics.

One of the exciting new features for the 2024 models is the torque-splitting rear axle, available in the all-wheel-drive variants. This rear axle system enhances engagement and performance by distributing power to the outside rear wheel through an electronically-controlled multi-plate clutch, enabling a dedicated drift mode for enthusiasts.

While official performance figures are yet to be released, the new range-topping models are expected to offer slight improvements over their predecessors. The current pricing for the lineup starts at £31,565 for the Leon and £32,580 for the Formentor, with the most potent variants reaching £37,890 and £39,830 respectively. Car enthusiasts can anticipate the arrival of these updated models on the roads by Q3 2024.

In conclusion, the 2024 Cupra Leon and Formentor models have undergone significant upgrades, combining striking design elements, enhanced performance capabilities, and advanced technological features to offer an exhilarating driving experience for customers. The addition of a plug-in hybrid option, improved chassis dynamics, and innovative rear axle system further solidify Cupra’s position in the competitive automotive market.
