Bentley has introduced the Batur Convertible as its third coachbuilt model in the modern era. This drop-top vehicle is the most powerful convertible ever produced by Bentley. Following the Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe, the Batur Convertible serves as a tribute to Bentley’s iconic W12 engine. With only 16 units set to be manufactured, this convertible promises exclusivity. While the pricing details are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to exceed the coupe’s £1.65 million price tag.
The design of the Batur Convertible mirrors the two-door, two-seat layout of the coupe while incorporating elements from the Bacalar into its open-top structure. The retractable roof of this model can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 30mph. Equipped with a 6-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine, the Batur Convertible generates an impressive 740bhp and 738lb ft of torque. This power is transferred to all four wheels through an eight-speed double-clutch transmission.
Given that production of the W12 engine is coming to an end, the Batur Convertible could be one of the final models to feature this powerplant. It boasts the most potent iteration of the W12 engine, surpassing the output of previous models. The convertible has been enhanced with upgraded turbochargers, a revised intake system, new intercoolers, and a recalibrated ECU to achieve the impressive 740bhp figure. While specific performance figures have not been disclosed, it is expected to outperform the 3.8-second 0-60mph time of its less powerful Bacalar counterpart, reaching a top speed of around 200mph.
As a high-end Mulliner coachbuilt vehicle, the Batur Convertible offers a wide range of customizable options. Buyers can choose from bespoke colors, hand-painted graphics, and even precious metal detailing. Unique finishes are available for elements such as the ‘airbridge,’ tonneau cover, and interior switchgear. Additionally, a partnership with goldsmiths introduces rose gold trim options for those seeking an extra touch of luxury.
Production of the 16 Batur Convertible units will take place at Bentley’s Crewe facility over several months, with prices anticipated to start above £1.65 million. The launch of this convertible marks a significant milestone for Bentley as it bids farewell to the W12 engine in a powerful and stylish manner.
