BMW’s electric vehicle (EV) sales have seen a significant increase of 34% in the first half of the year. The BMW Group has experienced strong growth in fully electric vehicles and the upper premium segment in the first half of 2024. A total of 179,557 fully electric vehicles were delivered by the BMW brand, leading to a 34.1% increase in BEV sales compared to the previous year. Overall, the BMW brand achieved a growth of 2.3% with 1,096,486 units sold in the first half of the year. This growth has allowed BMW to outperform its traditional competitors and gain a significant market share in Europe.

Jochen Goller, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales, expressed his satisfaction with the performance, stating, “In the first six months of the year, we saw double-digit growth of our fully-electric vehicles and models from the upper premium segment.” He attributed this success to the attractive product portfolio offered by BMW and the hard work of BMW Group employees and the global retail network.

Models from the upper premium segment have been particularly popular among customers, alongside fully-electric models. The BMW 7 Series experienced a sales growth of 22% in the first half of the year, while the BMW X1 and the BMW 3 Series also saw strong growth compared to the previous year. BMW M GmbH also performed well, especially with the unveiling of the first M5 high-performance sedan with an electrified drivetrain in June, leading to a sales growth of 5.1%.

MINI, under the BMW Group, delivered 114,054 vehicles in the first half-year, including the first MINI Cooper cars from the New MINI Family, which received positive feedback from customers. The further ramp-up of the MINI Cooper and MINI Countryman, along with the market launch of the MINI Aceman, is expected to provide momentum in the second half of the year.

Rolls-Royce had a successful launch of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II, the most in-demand model in its product portfolio. In the first half of the year, Rolls-Royce delivered 2,819 motor cars to customers worldwide. BMW Motorrad also saw success, handing over 113,072 motorcycles and scooters to customers during the same period.

Looking ahead to the second half of 2024, the BMW Group is confident in its outlook. With the full availability of the BMW 5 Series models, including the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the first BMW i5 Touring, as well as the ongoing market launch of the New MINI Family, the group is well-positioned to meet customer preferences worldwide.

The BMW Group’s sales data for Q2 and YTD June 2024 show positive trends, with an increase in BMW Group Automotive sales by 2.2% in Q2 and 2.3% YTD compared to the previous year. Electrified vehicle sales also saw significant growth, with a 22.2% increase in BMW Group BEV sales in Q2 and a 24.6% increase YTD. Despite some fluctuations, the BMW Group remains optimistic about its future prospects.
