Cupra is gearing up to reveal updated versions of its Leon and Formentor models, following the recent launch of the Mk8.5 Volkswagen Golf. The unveiling is scheduled for April 29, with both vehicles expected to receive mid-life updates that include enhanced performance and next-generation hybrid technology.
While specific details are currently limited, Cupra has hinted that the new Leon and Formentor will feature refreshed styling in line with the brand’s latest design direction, as well as increased digital integration. This likely means a more responsive infotainment system and potentially a larger touchscreen display with illuminated touch sliders for temperature and volume controls, similar to the latest Golf.
In terms of performance, the current 242bhp Cupra Leon hot hatch is anticipated to receive a power boost, aligning it with the upgraded 261bhp Golf GTI. The revised Leon is likely to retain the seven-speed DSG gearbox as its transmission option. There is also speculation surrounding a potential facelifted Leon 300 variant, which could see a power output exceeding 300bhp, thanks to the EA888 2-liter turbocharged engine.
The Formentor, which shares its platform with the Golf and Leon, is also expected to benefit from similar upgrades, potentially surpassing the current 310 model’s 306bhp output. Additionally, plug-in hybrid versions of both the Leon and Formentor are expected to feature an improved 19.7kWh battery, similar to the Golf, offering an electric range of up to 62 miles.
As for pricing, the current Cupra Leon starts at £31,565 for the base 1.5-liter TSI version and goes up to £41,945 for the 300 model. Similarly, the Formentor’s price ranges from £32,580 to £45,690 for the 310 trim. With the upcoming updates and enhancements, a slight price increase across the lineup can be expected.
Overall, the forthcoming updates to the Cupra Leon and Formentor models promise to deliver a blend of refreshed design, enhanced performance, and advanced hybrid technology. Car enthusiasts and Cupra fans alike can look forward to the official unveiling on April 29 to get a closer look at these exciting developments in the Cupra lineup.
