British EV company Electrogenic has introduced a new ‘plug and play’ conversion kit for the iconic DeLorean DMC-12, famously known for its appearance in the Back to the Future movies. This easy-to-install kit is now available through Electrogenic’s global installer network, making it accessible to DeLorean enthusiasts worldwide.

The DeLorean DMC-12, originally designed by John DeLorean in the late 1970s, was ahead of its time with its sustainable approach using composites and stainless-steel panels. Electrogenic’s conversion kit aims to enhance this iconic car by bringing it into the modern era with a clean, efficient electric powertrain. The conversion is reversible, ensuring the preservation of the original structure of the vehicle.

Electrogenic’s conversion kit includes a powerful EV powertrain technology that elevates the driving experience of the DMC-12 with smooth electric performance. This kit is part of Electrogenic’s expanding range of ‘plug and play’ EV conversions, which already includes options for other classic cars like the Land Rover Defender, Jaguar E-type, classic Mini, and Porsche 911. The company also specializes in bespoke conversions, such as electrifying a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II for actor Jason Momoa.

The innovative technology developed by Electrogenic’s team of engineers, programmers, and fabricators enables a seamless integration of the electric powertrain within the existing architecture of the DeLorean DMC-12. This conversion features brand-new OEM grade batteries with a high energy density, providing enhanced power and torque to the rear wheels. The electrified DMC-12 offers improved acceleration, configurable driving profiles, regenerative braking, and a range of over 150 miles in real-world driving conditions.

Electrogenic’s commitment to quality and innovation is evident in its in-house developed technology, including software, printed circuit boards, and vehicle management systems. The company’s conversions prioritize engineering excellence, ensuring that the original structure of the vehicle is maintained and all modifications are reversible. Electrogenic’s bespoke conversions are completed at its Oxford headquarters, while its ‘drop-in’ kits are available through a growing network of partner installers globally.

By electrifying the DeLorean DMC-12, Electrogenic is not only preserving the legacy of this iconic car but also paving the way for sustainable, low-carbon motoring. The conversion kit offers DeLorean enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the thrill of driving a classic car with a modern, efficient electric powertrain. With Electrogenic’s expertise and cutting-edge technology, the future of classic car restoration and conversion is indeed electric.
