Lamborghini recently announced its plans to continue offering hybrid sports cars for as long as possible, while also introducing an electric version of the Urus SUV in the early 2030s. The brand’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, emphasized that Lamborghini remains dedicated to internal-combustion engines for its super sports cars, while transitioning its ‘daily driver’ models to electric power.

The Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid sports car, was followed by the non-plug-in Sián, and the upcoming successor to the Huracan is expected to debut with a new plug-in hybrid V8 system. Winkelmann highlighted the importance of introducing new models to keep customers engaged and excited about the brand’s offerings.

The Lamborghini Lanzador, a two-door, four-seat coupe, is set to enter production in 2028 as the brand’s first electric vehicle. This model was previewed by a concept car at Monterey Car Week in 2023 and is part of Lamborghini’s strategy to have a mix of hybrid and electric vehicles in its lineup.

The current Urus SUV, which has been a significant model for Lamborghini since its launch in 2017, recently transitioned to a plug-in-hybrid-only offering with the Urus SE. While updates are expected to keep the Urus fresh in the market, its electric successor is not anticipated to debut until at least 12 years from now.
