Bentley recently unveiled the latest version of their iconic Continental GT, marking the fourth generation of this luxury vehicle. This new iteration features an ‘Ultra Performance Hybrid’ powertrain, boasting a 771bhp 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that can reach a top speed of 208mph. Not only is this the most powerful Bentley road car ever produced, but it is also the fastest.

The new Continental GT will initially be available in Speed trim, exclusively offering a V8 hybrid powertrain, which replaces both the previous V8 and W12 units. Despite producing 11 percent more torque than the W12 engine and 19 percent more power, the performance of the new powertrain remains impressive.

The V8 engine comes equipped with mono-scroll turbos, generating 591bhp and 590lb ft of torque. The addition of a 25.9kWh battery, located behind the rear axle, contributes to the car’s 50:50 weight distribution. This battery powers a motor inside the eight-speed automatic transmission, producing an additional 187bhp and 332lb ft of torque. Overall, the hybrid system allows the Continental GT to achieve 771bhp and 738lb ft of torque.

In terms of performance, the new Continental GT can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 3.1 seconds, reaching 100mph in 6.9 seconds. Its top speed of 208mph is only limited by its Pirelli P Zero tires. Additionally, the car recently set an unofficial world record for the highest speed achieved by a car ‘under the sea,’ hitting 208mph in the Ryfylke Tunnel in Norway.

The latest Continental GT features a range of new chassis hardware and software, including two-chamber air suspension, two-valve dampers, electronic rear differential, all-wheel steering, torque vectoring, Bentley’s active anti-roll system, and rewritten ESC control software. These enhancements contribute to a more dynamic driving experience, characterized by improved body control without compromising ride quality.

The design of the new Continental GT has also undergone significant changes, with a departure from Bentley’s traditional twin-headlamp design in favor of a single unit with a striking light bar. The front bumper and grille have been redesigned to give the car a more muscular appearance, while aerodynamic elements at the rear reduce lift and enhance overall performance.

Internally, the focus has been on integrating advanced technology, such as over-the-air updates, a new Bentley app for monitoring charging status, remote park assist, and pre-conditioning via climate control. The My Bentley App studio allows owners to personalize their in-car experience by storing preferred apps.

The new Continental GT Speed will make its debut at the Festival of Speed before heading to Pebble Beach in August, being offered as both a coupe and GTC convertible for the first time. This latest iteration of the Continental GT continues Bentley’s legacy of combining luxury with cutting-edge performance and technology.
