Subaru enthusiasts may be disappointed to hear that sales of the BRZ and WRX have been on the decline this year. Despite Subaru’s overall growth in sales, the popular sports cars have not been performing well. The BRZ saw a significant drop of 30.9% in deliveries through September compared to last year. Although there was a slight increase in demand last month, it was not enough to make a significant impact. On the other hand, the Toyota GR86, a similar model to the BRZ, has been doing much better with a 10.4% increase in shipments this year.

The WRX, Subaru’s sports sedan, has also experienced a tough year with a 34.2% decrease in sales. The company attributed this decline to higher interest rates and a late model year changeover. It seems that Subaru may need to make some changes to revitalize sales, such as removing the plastic body cladding to appeal to a wider audience. Additionally, introducing a WRX Sportwagon with a manual transmission in the United States could attract more buyers.

While the BRZ and WRX are not the only Subaru models facing a decline in sales this year, the company as a whole is still up by 5.6% in the first nine months of the year. This growth can be attributed to the success of models like the Forester, Crosstrek, and Outback, which have seen increases in demand. The all-electric Solterra has also seen a significant jump in sales by 58.6%.

Despite the challenges faced by the BRZ and WRX, Subaru remains optimistic about the future. The company is set to release the new WRX tS early next year, which could help boost sales. With a strong lineup of crossover and SUV models, Subaru is confident that they can continue to grow and attract new customers in the coming year.
