Boreham Motorworks, a motorsport engineering company specializing in classic Fords, has made a groundbreaking move by striking a license agreement with Ford to reproduce the iconic Group B machine – the Ford RS200. This development comes as the RS200 celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking a significant milestone in the history of rally cars.

The RS200 is set to be remastered rather than an exact continuation, with Boreham describing it as an entirely new, ground-up build. On the other hand, the Mk1 Escort will be blueprint-accurate, stamped with continuation VIN numbers, and faithful to the original design. The original RS200 was a bespoke rally car with four-wheel drive and a mid-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder engine, showcasing cutting-edge technology during its time.

Interestingly, only 200 road-legal examples of the RS200 were initially built for homologation purposes, and despite its hefty price tag of £49,995 in 1985, the quality of these cars was inconsistent. However, Boreham aims to deliver reproduction models that are significantly better built than the originals, albeit at a higher price point. Each reproduction will be strictly limited in numbers and distributed directly to customers by the firm.

Moreover, Boreham plans to expand its lineup by adding five additional classic Ford models in the future, offering enthusiasts more opportunities to own and experience these iconic cars. The Mk1 Escort continuation is scheduled to debut later this year, and interested individuals can now register to secure a build slot for either the Escort or RS200.

In a world where classic cars hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts, the revival of the Ford RS200 by Boreham Motorworks signifies a new chapter in automotive history. With meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality, Boreham is set to bring back these legendary machines for a new generation to appreciate and enjoy. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project and the upcoming classic Ford models from Boreham Motorworks.
