Toyota has unveiled the RAV-X concept car at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, showcasing a heavily modified version of the popular RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid. The RAV-X is designed to take on the tough terrains of the Dakar Rally, with a suspension lift of two inches and a wider track for improved off-road capabilities. The concept features a unique design with front and rear bumpers, skid plates, and a roof spoiler inspired by Dakar Rally vehicles.
Crafted by the Toyota Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team, the RAV-X boasts custom 2.5-inch internal-bypass dampers from Fox, forged aluminum front lower control arms, and rear upper supports. The powertrain remains unchanged, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with electric motors and a CVT transmission, delivering an output of 302 horsepower. To protect the powertrain, the RAV-X is equipped with front and rear skid plates and raised rocker panels for increased ground clearance.
The exterior of the RAV-X features wider fenders, additional ventilation on the hood, red mud flaps, and a rear spoiler. The front bumper mirrors the design of Dakar Rally winners, with cooling ducts, LED lights, and red tow hooks. The concept rides on 17-inch forged aluminum wheels with off-road tires and a high-clearance dual exhaust.
While the RAV-X may not see production, it serves as a halo car for the RAV4 lineup, showcasing the potential for a more capable off-road variant of the popular SUV. The concept combines motorsports-inspired design with enhanced off-road performance, catering to enthusiasts looking to push the limits of their vehicles.
