Land Rover is set to unveil the most powerful Defender yet, known as the OCTA, on 3 July. This new model will feature a twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 engine, which is expected to generate 626bhp and 590lb ft of torque. This makes it 108bhp and 129lb ft more powerful than the current most powerful Defender V8.
To handle the increased power, the OCTA will come equipped with Land Rover’s 6D Dynamics suspension system, similar to what is found in the Range Rover Sport SV. This system, with hydraulically-interlinked dampers, can control pitch and roll at all corners, providing better performance and ride quality. It also enhances off-road capability by allowing maximum independent wheel travel and articulation.
In terms of design, the OCTA will feature diamond-style graphics both inside and out, with a machined titanium trim piece on the side-window panel. The new model has undergone extensive testing, including snow and ice driving in Sweden, warm-weather testing in Dubai, and laps at the Nürburgring.
Despite initial expectations for the model to be named the Defender SVR, it has been confirmed that the high-performance Land Rover products will now carry the OCTA name, while SV will be exclusive to Range Rover. The price for the OCTA is expected to be significantly higher than the current most expensive Defender, with only 1070 units available in the UK during the first year of production.
For those interested in the OCTA, Land Rover is offering an exclusive preview event where customers can get an early look at the car and finalize their specifications. This limited production model promises to be the fastest, toughest, and most capable Defender to date, combining power, performance, and luxury in a unique package.
