In the United States, car-based pickup trucks, also known as utes, have never really caught on like they have in Australia and other markets. While there have been some outliers like the Ford Ranchero, Chevy El Camino, and Subaru Baja, they never gained widespread popularity. One interesting custom creation that is currently for sale on eBay is a Dodge Charger pickup, which was converted by Smyth Performance, a company based in Rhode Island that specializes in ute conversion kits for various cars.

The project, named “Operation Thunder,” used a 2015 Charger as the donor car and features Charger Widebody fenders for the front and rear. The front end and cab of the conversion look well done and clearly resemble a Charger pickup. However, the rear end design has faced some challenges, as the original kit did not match up with the Hellcat widebody front. A new design concept had to be created, involving a lot of work to make a functioning tailgate. The final result blends the Hellcat look to the rear, creating a unique and eye-catching appearance.

Despite its Hellcat appearance, this Charger pickup is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine producing 300 horsepower, similar to the Charger SXT model. The engine does have some performance upgrades such as a cold-air intake, high-performance coils, and a catback exhaust. With 30,000 miles on the odometer, this custom Charger pickup is listed for $42,000 on eBay, with the option for potential buyers to make their best offer.

While this custom Dodge Charger pickup may not have the high-performance engine of a Hellcat, its unique design and attention to detail make it a standout creation. For enthusiasts looking for a one-of-a-kind vehicle that combines the styling of a Charger with the utility of a pickup truck, this custom conversion offers a compelling option. Whether it’s for daily driving or showcasing at car events, this Charger pickup is sure to turn heads and spark conversations wherever it goes.
