Adrian Newey, the brilliant mind behind the Red Bull F1 team, is moving on after nearly two decades. However, fans of his work need not worry, as he is fully committed to seeing the RB17 hypercar project through to completion. This track-only hypercar, powered by a V10 engine, is set to reach customers in 2026.
During his time at Red Bull, Newey contributed to an impressive 118 victories and 101 poles for the team. Despite his departure, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of Red Bull Racing’s success. He mentioned that it was the right time for him to pass the baton to others and explore new challenges.
The RB17 hypercar, developed in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT), promises to deliver unparalleled performance. With a powerful 15,000rpm naturally-aspirated V10 engine combined with a 200bhp electric motor, the RB17 is expected to match Formula 1 lap times. The car’s aero package, including a blown diffuser and active suspension system, will generate significant downforce, allowing the car to reach its peak performance.
One of the key features of the RB17 is its active suspension, which offers flexibility in setup to accommodate drivers of varying skill levels. Additionally, the car’s design includes a closed cockpit that can comfortably seat two occupants, making it more accessible for taller drivers compared to the Valkyrie.
Red Bull is focusing on in-house production for the RB17, with certain components sourced from their F1 part suppliers. The estimated price for the hypercar is around £5 million, excluding taxes, making it a luxury item for those seeking a taste of F1 performance.
Despite Newey’s departure from Red Bull, he remains committed to the RB17 project and ensuring its success. Fans can look forward to the reveal of the final design at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer, with customer cars entering production in 2026. The RB17 hypercar represents a new chapter for Adrian Newey and his incredible engineering legacy.
