Ariel has recently unveiled the Nomad 2, the latest iteration of its rugged off-road vehicle, which is set to debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Priced at £67,992, the Nomad 2 has undergone a complete redesign to enhance performance, safety, and practicality.
The Nomad 2 features a new tubular chassis inspired by the Ariel Atom 4, providing increased rigidity and safety. The chassis also offers more cockpit space and improved entry/egress opening. The toughened polyethylene and carbonfibre bodywork contributes to better aerodynamics, with an integrated ram-air intake system to enhance performance.
Under the hood, the Nomad 2 is powered by a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from Ford, producing 305bhp and 382lb ft of torque. With a kerb weight of 715kg, the Nomad 2 boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 427bhp/ton, surpassing the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato. The vehicle also comes with driver-selectable power modes and improved traction control features.
In terms of transmission, the Nomad 2 offers a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with an option for a Quaife sequential transmission with paddle shifters. The addition of a larger radiator and a 70-litre fuel tank enhances the vehicle’s performance and practicality for long-distance drives.
The suspension system of the Nomad 2 has been completely revised, featuring bespoke K-Tech coilovers and dual rate Eibach springs. Buyers can also opt for Ohlins TTX dampers and springs with external reservoirs for a more customized driving experience. The brakes have been upgraded by 40% over the previous model, with the option of AP Racing four-piston calipers for added stopping power.
Inside the Nomad 2, improvements have been made to enhance ergonomics and space, with a digital instrument display and a simplified electronic system. The vehicle is designed to be easily cleaned after off-road adventures, with a focus on durability rather than luxury.
While the price of the Nomad 2 has increased compared to the original model, each vehicle is built to order by a single technician, ensuring attention to detail and quality.
