Bugatti recently unveiled their latest hypercar, the Bugatti Tourbillon, which boasts an impressive 1775-HP hybrid powertrain. This new model marks the second release from Bugatti since its merger with Rimac in 2021. The Tourbillon differs from its predecessor, the Chiron, by featuring an innovative 8.3-liter V-16 engine with a cross-plane crank that delivers 986 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Developed with the help of Cosworth, this engine is naturally aspirated, a departure from the Chiron’s forced induction setup.

The powertrain of the Tourbillon is not limited to the V-16 engine, as it also includes three electric motors – two at the front axle and one at the rear, generating a combined 789 horsepower. When combined with the engine, the total power output of the Tourbillon reaches an impressive 1775 horsepower. Additionally, the hypercar boasts an electric-only range of close to 30 miles, offering a blend of performance and efficiency for potential buyers.

In terms of design, Bugatti Rimac took advantage of the engine swap to reorganize the components under the carbon-fiber body of the Tourbillon. This allowed for a more ergonomic cabin layout, complete with luxurious dihedral doors and a sleek, aggressive profile. Unlike the Chiron, which positioned its transmission between the seats, the Tourbillon features a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a 21.0-kWh battery pack running through the center of the car.

The interior of the Tourbillon is designed to be timeless, with a focus on analog elements that offer a unique interaction experience. The gauge cluster, inspired by mechanical timepieces, is made of milled sapphire crystal for durability and scratch resistance. Bugatti worked with a Swiss watchmaker to create bespoke gauges with raised numbers and physical needles, providing a sculptural and visually striking aesthetic.

In terms of performance, the Tourbillon incorporates innovative aerodynamic features to control airflow and enhance speed. With a top speed of 277 mph, the hypercar utilizes smart software to seamlessly blend the power from the engine and electric motors, achieving impressive acceleration figures. Bugatti plans to produce only 250 units of the Tourbillon, with production set to begin in 2026. Prospective buyers must have a proven track record of purchasing Bugatti or Rimac models to secure a reservation.

Overall, the Bugatti Tourbillon represents a new chapter in hypercar technology, blending power, efficiency, and timeless design elements to create a truly unique driving experience. With its limited production run and exclusive criteria for potential buyers, the Tourbillon is set to become a coveted collector’s item in the world of high-performance automobiles.
