Rivian, the American start-up known for its innovative electric vehicles, has recently unveiled the second-generation models of its R1T electric pick-up truck and R1S seven-seat SUV. These new models come with a host of upgrades aimed at enhancing performance, range, user experience, and more.

One of the most significant changes in the new R1T and R1S is the introduction of in-house designed and manufactured motors, which are oil-cooled to optimize performance in various driving conditions. The vehicles are available with dual, tri, and quad-motor powertrains, with the latter delivering an impressive 1,011bhp and 1,624Nm of torque. This power output, combined with a new launch mode, enables the quad-motor models to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than 2.5 seconds.

While the range of the new models has seen a slight improvement, ranging from 270 to 420 miles depending on the battery size, Rivian has implemented cost-saving measures for the battery packs. The new models also feature chassis tweaks, including new air springs and dampers, to enhance ride quality and handling.

Technological advancements in the R1T and R1S include a new array of high-resolution cameras, updated infotainment system with 3D graphics, and a Dynamic Glass Roof that can change its opacity at the touch of a button. Additionally, the vehicles boast a redesigned interior with new alloy wheel designs, paint options, and sound systems.

Despite the exciting upgrades, Rivian has announced that there are currently no plans to launch the R1T and R1S in the UK. However, the company is set to introduce the Rivian R2 mid-size electric SUV in the UK in 2027. The pricing for the R1T starts at $69,900, while the R1S starts at $75,900 in the US.
