Tesla has announced a recall for 11,688 Cybertrucks due to a faulty windshield wiper motor and 11,383 Cybertrucks for a loose trim piece in the bed. The recalls cover nearly every unit of the 2024 Cybertruck manufactured through June 6. This is the third and fourth recall since the Cybertruck was released last year, following a recall for unintended acceleration in April that affected almost every Cybertruck made up to that point.
The issue with the windshield wiper motor is due to “electrical overstress to the gate driver component,” as reported by the NHTSA. The long blade of the wiper, measuring about four feet long, may not work properly because of excessive current used in testing by the supplier. Tesla will be installing a new windshield wiper motor at their stores and service centers free of charge for affected owners. Notifications and instructions will be sent out by mail starting from August 18.
On the other hand, the loose trim piece on the bed frame, known as the “sail applique,” has affected 11,383 Cybertrucks built from November 13, 2023, to May 26, 2024. Owners may notice a flapping noise in the cabin or see the trim piece coming loose. Tesla will replace or rework the sail applique with appropriate adhesion at no cost to owners. Similar to the windshield wiper motor recall, notifications and instructions will be sent out by mail starting from August 18.
