Bentley has just unveiled its fourth generation of the Continental GT, marking a significant milestone for the Crewe-based manufacturer. This new model boasts a powerful ‘Ultra Performance Hybrid’ powertrain, featuring a 771bhp 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that propels the car to a top speed of 208mph. Not only is this the most powerful Bentley road car ever produced, but it is also the fastest.
The new Continental GT will be launched in Speed trim, exclusively equipped with a V8 hybrid powertrain that replaces the previous V8 and W12 units. Despite producing 11% more torque than the W12 and 19% more power, the new powertrain does not compromise on performance. The V8 engine, which generates 591bhp and 590lb ft of torque, is complemented by a 25.9kWh battery mounted behind the rear axle, contributing to the car’s 50:50 weight distribution.
This hybrid system allows the Continental GT to have an electric range of 50 miles, with a combined power output of 771bhp and 738lb ft of torque. The car can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 208mph, limited only by its Pirelli P Zero tires. Additionally, it has set an unofficial world record for the highest recorded speed by a car ‘under the sea’, reaching 208mph in the Ryfylke Tunnel in Norway.
Under the hood, the new Continental GT features a host of advanced chassis hardware and software, including two-chamber air suspension, two-valve dampers, electronic rear differential, all-wheel steering, and torque vectoring. These enhancements, combined with Bentley’s active anti-roll system and redesigned ESC control software, provide the car with improved dynamic capabilities.
In terms of design, the fourth generation Continental GT features a more muscular and toned look, with a single headlamp design and a distinctive light bar running through it. The front bumper has been redesigned for a more defined appearance, and the rear wing has been replaced with an integrated aerodynamic form to reduce lift. Inside, the focus is on technological advancements, such as over-the-air updates and a Bentley app that allows owners to monitor the car’s charging status and utilize remote park assist.
Overall, the new Bentley Continental GT represents a significant leap forward in terms of performance, efficiency, and design. With its powerful hybrid powertrain, advanced chassis technology, and striking aesthetics, this latest model is sure to set a new standard for luxury grand tourers. Bentley enthusiasts and automotive enthusiasts alike can look forward to experiencing the unparalleled driving experience that this exceptional vehicle has to offer.
